Maddy Rotman TS:
Two days after I signed with Anti Agency they set me up for a test shoot with a photographer named Maddy Rotman. I didn't know what a test shoot was. Didn't get the point. I didn't know if we had to pay her later or why it was mutually beneficial. Still, seemed like a good enough idea to do it.
This being the first model-y thing that I’ve done as a real model, it made me think about how lots of activities done for the first time have a very high rate of being awful. This was an exception though, which was pretty refreshing as I was pretty nervous. We shot in the back her friends house, rented by a couple of sweet musician, film maker, artists types. We did it during golden hour on a huge $70 piece of paper. She also brought her stylist friend Megan. A real pro who tolerated my seemingly endless questions about how she had so many expensive pieces at her disposal and why I had to be careful about the tags.
I put a lot of effort into my appearance before hand which meant, showering, shaving, and wearing my good socks and my good (1 of 2) underwear. A habit that’s continued for every other shoot. Tried on a bunch of outfits (some i would wear and some that i would prefer to appreciate on other people) and was told to be myself, which meant fidgeting with my whole body in a way that was flattering to the camera. It was a taste of this new thing that was in my life, and it tasted somewhat like a fuji apple that was too heavy for the rest of the tree. Weighing down on the limb that it grew from, bowing closer to the ground then the rest of those apples. It was fun and easy and made for some pretty tasty juice.
Anyway here are two of the looks. The juice. The pictures. All shot on film and made into the foundation of my portfolio:
