Went camping with Ed
Chilaos is always boss
This is what we did:
A good ol’ haiku to start this post. This was a fun one. A week before camping here, I camped at Monte Cristo 20 minutes down from where Chilao is. That was not a fun one: went alone, still was in crutches, slept in the back of a Prius (which died the next morning), and was filled with the worst existential dread while two separate groups played (not very good) music all night. This was slightly different though: went with Ed, was not in crutches, slept in the tent under the stars, and thought nothing of my short existence while listening to critters and a banjo player.
We also had a kite. A very patriotic one. And for some reason unreleased Ed Axel was playing in the background.
Despite remembering to bring a kite though, we turned out to be sorely unprepared for our one and only meal that we brought up.
You see.. we brought firewood, a cast iron skillet, burgers, buns, and cheese. To make burgers of course. And that might seem like enough but if you thought that then you’d probably have fun camping with us. With no spatula, plates, seasoning, or cooking oil it turned out to be more difficult than expected. They still turned out awesome though. The sake helped a lot……
Coming to my favorite part now is us signing next to our growing fire. I played the only two songs I know, and then Ed free styled about our adventure. Almost everytime I watch the video I watch it in its totality. It was so fun and cold and warm and uncomfortable and dirty and bad and awesome and the night only got better. I put it on youtube because I wanted about 30 or so strangers to feel at least part of it:
It was nice up there. Just like it is every time. Like in May 2022 for T’s birthday and September 2022 with Adali and Ankha.
Here’s a timelapse of the whole ordeal with our Chilao freestyle in the background.
